St. Louis - March 12, 2009 - Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan is holding a news conference today at 2:00 p.m. in her St. Louis office. Missourians United for Life is encouraging reporters to ask Ms. Carnahan about her attendance earlier this week at a pro-abortion fundraiser in New York City with Planned Parenthood executives and pro-abortion elites including actress Kathleen Turner.
"Robin Carnahan is back from New York City, but Missourians have not received a report from her on what commitments she made to the pro-abortion lobby which has and is bankrolling her campaigns in Missouri," said Ed Martin, President of Missourians United for Life. "Robin Carnahan should come clean about her close family relationship with Planned Parenthood as her sister-in-law is on the national board of Planned Parenthood. Since Planned Parenthood is now suing in Missouri courts to stop a pro-life taxpayer protection amendment, Carnahan has a duty as Secretary of State to answer questions. If she, like Planned Parenthood, has promised supporters that she will back abortion-on-demand and taxpayer funding for abortion, Carnahan should state that today and very specifically state her view on the so-called Freedom of Choice Act which would eliminate Missouri laws protecting life including our ban on partial birth abortion. We believe that Carnahan is getting support from New York abortion supporters precisely because Carnahan has acted against a pro-life taxpayer protection initiative filed with her office by inserting her own pro-abortion positions and by supporting the Freedom of Choice Act. We know that Carnahan has earned the endorsement of extreme pro-abortion groups like Emily's List which has already endorsed Robin Carnahan in her Senate campaign and supports FOCA. Missourians deserve to know what Robin Carnahan was doing in New York City and what she promised the pro-abortion lobby."
Robin Carnahan attended the pro-abortion fundraiser in New York City on Monday, March 9. For more on the dinner event, see page 7 of the invitation here: http://wcf.3cdn.net/f32c5f884d6d9dd07d_uwm6bhvvj.pdf
